Baycats best Panthers in extras
BARRIE - A valiant effort, but the Panthers come up short on the road.
Tyler Plumpton walked it off with an RBI single in the 10th to give the Barrie Baycats a 4-3 win Saturday afternoon.
It was a pitchers duel for the most part, as Jose Vasquez and Juan Benitez both went eight innings and gave up three runs a piece.
Vasquez struck out seven and walked four, while giving up 11 hits. Benitez gave up 12 hits and struck out six.
Eight of the nine Panthers batters got a hit in this one, including a home run by Ryan Burnside in the eighth to give Kitchener its first lead of the game.
Ryan Rijo led off the bottom of the inning with a home run of his own to tie it.
Raul Gonzalez drove in a run for the fourth time in five games. His 32nd RBI of the year puts him one behind Chatham-Kent's Seth Strong for the league lead.
Nick Parsons also extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the third.
Kitchener has now lost five straight and drops to 10-20 on the season. Things get tougher at home Sunday, as the Welland Jackfish head to Jack Couch Park for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
