Bombs away! 14-run second pushes Panthers to win

KITCHENER - A single-inning offensive output not seen in at least a decade.

The Kitchener Panthers posted 14 runs in the second inning Saturday afternoon, including a Caleb Cain-Plante grand slam, to defeat the Brantford Red Sox 20-5 Saturday afternoon at Jack Couch Park.

It's the most runs the Panthers have scored in at least 10 years.

The closest was a 13-run output on June 7, 2018, when Kitchener put 13 on the board in the fifth in a 20-6 win over Barrie.

The last time Kitchener recorded a double digit run inning was July 14, 2022, posting a 10-run first inning in a 21-12 win over Hamilton at home.

Eight of Kitchener's starting nine recorded at least a hit.

Yosuke Fujie and Yordan Manduley also went yard. The two of them had productive days, with Fujie going three-for-five and Manduley getting a pair of hits and four RBI.

Former Panther Pedro De Los Santos was roughed up for 10 runs (six earned) in 1.2 innings of work. The second also saw two errors and two pitching changes for Brantford.

Evan Elliott and Yadian Martinez each went four innings and picked up seven strikeouts a piece, with Martinez picking up the win.

The game was a make up for a rain delay earlier this month.

Kitchener wraps up the weekend at home Sunday against the Barrie Baycats. First pitch flies at 2 p.m.
