Douglas Throws Four Scoreless, Panthers Win Second Game of the Weekend

The Kitchener Panthers pulled out their second win in a row on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Guelph Royals 4-3 on a beautiful day for baseball.

Jacob Douglas made his return to the Panthers lineup, starting on the mound and throwing a commanding 4 innings before being pulled after reaching his pitch limit for the day. He struck out 3 and only allowed one hit, surrendering an unearned run.

The Panthers’ runs came off an Andy Leader two-run blast to left field to open the scoring in the third and Keegan Marsden’s two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.

Other notable offensive performances were Simon Grinberg continuing his hot start, picking up 2 singles and Liam Wilson reaching base 3 times on a hit by pitch and 2 walks.

Nathan Laird walked one in a scoreless sixth to earn the win and Adam Robertson threw 2 scoreless innings as the setup man.

Making his second pitching appearance of the season, Leader threw a perfect Ninth Inning with a strikeout to pick up his first save.

Nelson Mercado took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out two.

The Panthers have 3 games scheduled for the upcoming week. Hosting the undefeated Welland Jackfish at Jack Couch Park on Thursday the 2nd at 7:30, followed by road games in Guelph on Saturday at 1:00 PM and in Brantford on Sunday at 2:00 PM.
