Early deficit too much to overcome in Barrie
BARRIE - Four runs in the first inning is all Barrie needed to take down the Panthers Saturday afternoon.
Kitchener would outhit the Baycats, but lost 4-1 at Athletic Kulture Stadium on a great pitching performance by Kitchener's pitching staff.
Evan Elliott gave up four runs (one earned) on five hits in the loss. He walked two and struck out three.
Andy Vargas and Dakota Parsons struck out six combined in the final four innings, and did not put anyone on base.
Kitchener got its lone run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk to Yunior Ibarra.
Juan Benitez went six scoreless innings in the win, giving up seven hits and struck out four. He walked two.
Kitchener is on the road in Welland Thursday night.
The Panthers have one more home game this season, against the Jackfish on Sunday, August 17 at 2 p.m.
