Gonzalez hits two HR, Parsons K's 10 in Panthers win

KITCHENER - Quality on both sides of the ball lead to a Kitchener Panthers win.

Dakota Parsons struck out a season-high 10 batters, and Raul Gonzalez put a pair over the Jack Couch Park fence and Kitchener wins 6-3 over the Guelph Royals Sunday.

Parsons went six innings of three hit, three run baseball.

The only runs he surrendered came on a three-run home run from J.D. Williams in the sixth.

That made it 3-2 Guelph after Kitchener opened the scoring an inning earlier on a two-run single from Blake Jacklin.

Gonzalez and Nick Parsons hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom half of the sixth to give Kitchener it's lead right back. The IBL MVP runner up last season turned on another pitch in the eighth.

David Bruinsma and Nathan Laird pitched shutout baseball in relief for Kitchener.

As did Danny Garcia, who made his Kitchener debut after coming over from Guelph in the Andy Leader deal.

Speaking of the Panthers vet, Leader was one-for-four in his return to Jack Couch, where he spent six seasons.

Hector Yan took the loss for Guelph. He went five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.

Kitchener's win snaps a three-game losing skid and improves its 2024 record to 4-12. Guelph falls to 9-5.

The Panthers host Welland Monday night for YOUTH SPORTS DAY. First pitch flies at 7:30 p.m. at Jack Couch Park.
