The Kitchener Panthers are excited to announce the signing of local Infielder, Stephen Whalen (Heidelberg, ON), for the 2022 season.

This will be Stephen’s fourth season with the Panthers and he will be looking to continue the momentum of his successful 2021 season where he hit a career high .291 with 23 hits, a .348 OBP, 2 homeruns, 10 RBI and had 5 stolen bases in 26 regular season games. In 2019, Whalen had a .241 average while appearing in 19 games.

A key piece in the order of the University of Waterloo baseball team over the past few years, Whalen had a standout 2019 season in which he hit .426 on route to winning the OUA Silver Slugger award at 3rd base.

With the ability to play multiple positions and his consistent growth each year played with the Panthers, Whalen projects to be a versatile piece for the Panthers in the upcoming season.

Mike Boehmer, Kitchener Panthers GM commented, “We are pleased to welcome back Stephen Whalen for his 4th Season with the Panthers. The University of Waterloo alumnus hit .291 last season, while playing well at both 3B and SS. Stephen has a strong arm in the infield, and we are expecting a strong performance from him in 2022.”
