KITCHENER - Yadian Martinez struck out seven in seven innings of work as the Panthers shut down the Guelph Royals Sunday afternoon 4-0 at Jack Couch Park.
Martinez gave up three hits in the win, which was all Guelph could muster on offense all afternoon.
For context, Guelph only had two at bats where there was a runner in scoring position.
Newly signed Sebastian Rodriguez went five innings in the loss for the Royals. He gave up all four Kitchener runs, including a two-run home run from Yosvani Penalver in the fifth inning.
Two of the three hits for Guelph came off the bat of Liam Wilson, who played his first game in Kitchener since his days in a Panther uniform.
Kitchener improves its record to 5-5, while Guelph drops to 4-6.
The momentum from two straight wins is huge, as Kitchener hosts the IBL-leading Welland Jackfish Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
