Panthers Drop Dramatic Slugfest in Guelph
The Kitchener Panthers weren’t able to hold onto a late lead and fell 13-12 in an action packed contest visiting the Guelph Royals.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the First Inning thanks to a Blake Jacklin RBI double, a Keegan Marsden RBI single, a Stephen Whalen RBI triple and a Danny Mahoney RBI sacrifice fly.
Guelph answered back with 1 run in the Second Inning and 3 more in the Third to tie the game at 4-4. The Panthers restored their 3 run lead immediately in the Fourth with Jacklin knocking a 2 RBI triple. A Robbie Gauthier RBI double in the Fifth stretched the lead to 8-4 but a pair of 2 run home runs by the Royals in the bottom of the inning brought the score back to even.
The Panthers took yet another 3 run lead on a Drey Sloat 3 run home run in the top of the Seventh Inning making it 11-8. However, the Royals answered back once again with 4 runs in the bottom of the Eighth, ultimately winning the game 13-12.
Despite the loss, the Panthers’ bats were on fire, picking up 17 hits as a team. Blake Jacklin ended the day 4 for 6 with two doubles, a triple, and 3 RBI. Drey Sloat picked up his first IBL Home Run as he went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI. Marsden, Whalen, Mahoney, and Gauthier all had 2 hits and an RBI each.
