Panthers Drop Game 2

After letting an early lead slip away Tuesday night in Barrie, Kitchener was hoping to avoid history repeating itself.  Unfortunately they were unable to get their wish.

Kitchener got out to an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Colin Gordner came home on an error by Barrie 1st baseman Jordan Castaldo who couldn’t handle a throw for what would have been the third out of the inning.  Kitchener got three more runs in the 3rd inning, this time it was Gordner’s turn to knock in a run with a Sac Fly.  Rookie Ryley Davenport followed Gordner with a mammoth blast out to left for a two run home run.  The blast by Davenport pushed the Panthers lead to 4-0.

Barrie couldn’t get much going against Kitchener starter Yoennis Yera until the 7th inning.  The first three batters all reached against Yera.  Yera was pulled for Brady Schnarr after giving up a RBI double to Ryan Rijo.  Schnarr wouldn’t fare much better giving up a two run double to the first batter he would face Conner Morro which cut the lead to 4-3.  Schnarr would last four batters giving way to Mike Schnurr.  Schnurr couldn’t stop the bleeding allowing a RBI single to Starlin Rodriguez, and a Sac Fly to Jordan Castaldo to put Battie up 5-4.  Barrie would add an insurance run in the 8th when Branfy Infante singled home Conner Morro.

Kitchener was unable to mount a late rally in the 9th against Baycats closer Adam Hawes who gave up a two out single to Ryley Davenport.  Davenport was stranded at 1st as Hawes got Brian Burton out swinging to end game 2 and give the Baycats a 2-0 series lead heading back to Barrie on Saturday evening at 7:00pm.  The rest of the series schedule can be found below.
