Panthers drop road contest in Chatham

CHATHAM - A rough seventh inning led to Kitchener's downfall.

The Barnstormers scored six runs in the seventh, including a pair of bases loaded walks, to defeat the Panthers 9-1 Saturday night in Chatham.

Yadian Martinez struck out six in five innings of work, and was tagged with the loss.

Mitsuki Fukuda hit a three-run home run in the first to push the home side to an early lead, but Kitchener hung in the game and got an RBI single from Yosvani Penalver to make it 3-1 in the sixth.

Penalver had two hits and a walk to lead the attack.

Trent Lawson had a pair of hits, while Yordan Manduley, Nick Parsons, Nico KyRose and AJ Karosas each had a hit.

Brock Whitson got the win for Chatham-Kent, striking out two in six innings.

Kitchener falls to 1-1, while Chatham gets the win in its first game of the year.

The two teams meet again in Kitchener Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
