Panthers Fall to Maple Leafs Despite 15 Hits

The Kitchener Panthers recorded 15 hits and scored 9 times, but a late inning comeback by the Leafs handed the Panthers their second loss of the season.

Carrying a 7-6 lead into the 7th inning, the Panthers’ bullpen was unable to hold onto the lead as they allowed 3 runs in both the 7th and 8th inning. The Panthers were able to put up a run in the 8th and 9th but their comeback efforts came up short, falling 12-9.

Bright Spots of the Game

There were several offensive performances worth taking note of as the Panthers recorded 15 hits on the day. Andy Leader went 2 for 5 with a HR and 2 RBI. He also pitched a perfect 9th inning, recording 1 Strikeout and facing only 3 batters. Reece Reading went 3 for 5 with a HR and 2 RBI, Jett Jarvis went 3 for 5 with a 2B and an RBI, Stephen Whalen went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI, Tyler Hinrikus went 3 for 5 with 3 runs and Liam Wilson had 2 hits on the day. 

On the mound, Leader had a strong performance, David Bruinsma had his second scoreless inning of work on the season and Steven Sanders looked strong in his Panthers debut, throwing 2 scoreless innings.

Looking Ahead

The Panthers take on the Brantford Red Sox, in Brantford, on Friday evening at 8:00 PM.

On Sunday the 29th, The Panthers will host the Guelph Royals and Dalton Pompey for a 2:00 PM afternoon game. This is the Kitchener Minor Baseball Appreciation game. All KMBA players and coaches who show up in uniform will receive free admittance.
