The Kitchener Panthers continued their impressive start to the season with a 13-3 victory over the Guelph Royals on Sunday afternoon. With good energy in the ballpark and beautiful weather for baseball, the Panthers gave the fans plenty to cheer about in a decisive 13-3 victory.

Christian Hauck delivered his second strong start of the season, tossing 4.1 innings with 5 strikeouts and only 2 earned runs allowed . Adam Robertson entered the game in the 5th and did a great job to work out of a jam. He ended up pitching 1.2 innings of hitless and scoreless ball.

The trio of Daniel Marquez, Brett Reid and Nathan Laird combined to throw 3 scoreless innings to close out the game with Marquez and Laird both picking up a pair of strikeouts.

Offensively, Elliot Curtis had his second multi home run game of the season as he propelled the offence with a 3 for 5 day with 5 RBI and 2 home runs. Andy Leader had 3 hits including a double and 2 RBI while Raul Gonzalez had 3 RBI and hit his 4th home run of the season.

The batting order has been sizzling hot to start the season, having scored 66 runs through the first 5 games including 14 home runs and 13 doubles, all of which are league leading totals.

The pitching staff has looked noticeably different from last year, having significantly cut down on walks and home runs allowed through the early stages of the season while also having recorded an impressive 58 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched.

Looking Ahead

The Panthers will look to continue their hot start to the season as they are in action next on Wednesday on the road in Toronto. The team will be looking for payback against a Maple Leafs squad who handed them their only loss of the season so far.

On Thursday the Panthers will return home to host the Hamilton Cardinals at 7:30 PM at Jack Couch Park.

The final contest of the 3 game week will also be at home on Sunday as the Panthers will host their longtime rivals, the Barrie Baycats, for their first meeting of the season at 2:00 PM at Jack Couch Park.
