Panthers lose third straight game

CHATHAM-KENT - It was a close game. And then it wasn't.

A nine-run eighth inning by the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers a sizeable lead it would not relinquish in a 16-5 trouncing of the Panthers Friday night.

Yadian Martinez went seven innings in the loss. He was pulled after a bases loaded walk, which stated Chatham's big eighth inning. Before that, Martinez kept up his reputation as a strikeout artist, fanning nine Barnstormers batters.

Kitchener held the early 2-0 lead, thanks to the Skorupski brothers.

Sean hit his first IBL home run in the second inning, before Justin potted a one-run triple in the fourth.

Raul Gonzalez was one-for-five with an RBI. He has hits in seven of eight games in June.

Jett Jarvis, Blake Jacklin and Simon Grinberg did not play.

Kitchener moves to 3-12 on the season, and have lost three straight.

The Panthers return home Sunday at 5:15 p.m. against the Guelph Royals for a Father's Day game.

Atlas Collectibles has partnered with the team to give away goodies at the game. There will also be giveaways including a $100 gift card at Cineplex and a family pass from THEMUSEUM.
