Panthers-Majors rained out
KITCHENER - A big home run, some big returns. But rain dampened the spirits of the latest edition of the Kitchener-London rivalry.
The Panthers were up 1-0 in the bottom of the third when umpires called the game due to the weather conditions, as torrential rain puddled the infield at Jack Couch Park Thursday.
The lone run came off the bat of Simon Grinberg, a home run in his first at bat of the season.
He was one of three returns to the Kitchener lineup. Grinberg's collegiate teammate at Keiser, Kenny Di Clemente, made his season debut.
As did Blake Jacklin, making his long awaited return after his first season at East Tennessee State University.
Yadian Martinez was in cruise control for Kitchener, only giving up a trio of singles in three innings of work. He nabbed three strikeouts to push his IBL-leading total to 33.
This game will resume where it left off at a later date.
Kitchener will continue its weekend on the road Saturday in Welland at 1 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon game in Brantford at 2 p.m.
The Panthers then return home next Thursday, June 13 against the Toronto Maple Leafs. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
