Panthers on wrong end of history as Boon blanks Kitchener bats

KITCHENER - For the first time since 1977, an Intercounty Baseball League pitcher has pitched a nine-inning no no.

Owen Boon struck out six and walked three in a nine-inning no hitter as the Hamilton Cardinals blanked the Panthers 18-0 Thursday night at Jack Couch Park.

Boon's historical performance was capped off by a diving catch from Carlos Dominguez in right field on what could've been a bloop single from Mateo Zeppieri, Boon's 111th pitch of the night.

Hamilton hit six home runs, and got a seven-run eighth inning to put the game far out of reach.

Yadian Martinez struck out nine, but was dinged for six runs on 10 hits in five innings of work in the loss.

Kitchener continues its four-in-four weekend in London Friday night at 7:35 p.m.

The next home game is Sunday against Barrie at 5 p.m.
