Panthers Pick up 12-8 Win Over London

The Kitchener Panthers welcomed the London Majors to Jack Couch Park on Sunday evening for the 4th meeting of the year between the teams and came away with a 12-8 victory.

Prior to the game, former Panthers standout and team captain, Tanner Nivins, was recognized for his outstanding IBL career as he was inducted into the Kitchener Panthers Hall of Fame. Tanner was a perennial All-Star in his time with the Panthers between 2013 to 2019 and was also named the 2013 IBL Rookie of the Year as well as 2016 IBL MVP.

Fittingly, on the day one of the best hitters in Franchise history was honoured, the Panther bats exploded for 17 hits and 12 runs scored on route to the victory.

On the mound, Cuban import Yadian Martinez made his IBL debut and despite not having his sharpest performance, was able to pick up the win through 5 innings of work, throwing 2 scoreless innings to finish his day.

Offensively, Elliot Curtis and Liam Wilson both homered and picked up 3 RBI, with Curtis recording 3 hits and Wilson 2 in the contest.

Yunior Ibarra had himself a 3 hit day, picking up an RBI and scoring 3 runs.

Jett Jarvis also had 2 hits and a walk while Tyler Hinrikus picked up 2 hits and a solo home run.

Raul Gonzalez had 2 hits including a double and an RBI as he extended his hit streak to 6 games.

Looking Ahead

The Panthers have a busy week ahead of them as they visit Toronto on Wednesday evening, host Brantford at home on Thursday evening and then visit Hamilton for their 3rd game in as many days on Friday night.

The final game of the week is on Sunday as the Panthers will host London at Jack Couch Park for a 5:15 PM contest.
