Panthers pitching roughed up in loss to Red Sox

KITCHENER - An aggressive Brantford Red Sox attack got runs early and often, and the Kitchener Panthers could not catch up, as Brantford came away with a 13-6 win at Jack Couch Park Sunday afternoon.

Kitchener drops to 1-5 on the season, while Brantford picks up its first win of 2024 to move to 1-3.

The Sox were able to get their first six batters on base, and recorded three runs in the first on Dakota Parsons.

The Kitchener starter finished after three innings of work, giving up three hits, five runs (four earned), while issuing four walks and nabbed four strikeouts.

Ryan Burnside --- starting behind the plate while usual catcher Yunior Ibarra hit in the DH spot --- kept Kitchener in it early, responding with a double to cash in two runs to make it 3-2 after the first inning.

Burnside finished two-for-four with a pair of RBIs, a run and a strikeout.

Jett Jarvis was the only other Kitchener player with a multi-hit game, finishing two-for-five with an RBI and two runs.

The first two hitters in the Brantford lineup had quite the outing. Jordan Lewis and Gus Wilson both finished with three hits.

Wilson hit a home run in the fourth, while Vaibhav Desai put one over the fence in the fifth.

It was 8-4 after the fifth, and despite Kitchener pressing, they left nine  on base throughout the game and couldn't catch the Sox on the scoreboard.

Jeremias Sucre was credited with the win for the Sox, going five innings, giving up six hits and four runs. He walked two and struck out two.

The Panthers welcome the expansion Chatham-Kent Barnstormers to town Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m.
