PANTHERS SIGN FLAME THROWING PRO CANADIAN RHP

The Kitchener Panthers are pleased to announce the singing of Right Handed Pitcher, Daniel Procopio (Toronto, ON), for the upcoming 2022 season.

The 26 year old flame throwing righty brings with him a plethora of experience and success in his baseball career so far and projects to be a very significant addition to the Panthers pitching staff.

In high school, Procopio was a back to back Canada Cup champion (2011, 2012) while representing Ontario and was also a member of the 2012-2013 Canadian Junior National Team. This led to being selected in the 22nd round of the Major League Baseball draft by the New York Mets in 2013. Opting to pursue a collegiate scholarship instead of signing, Procopio went on to pitch one season at NJCAA D1 Seminole State College (Seminole, OK) and three seasons at NCAA D1 Niagara University (Niagara Falls, NY).

His collegiate career was highlighted by a 2017 Senior season which saw him record 6 wins, a 4.19 ERA and 75 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched. Following his Senior season, Procopio had a brief stop in Kitchener, making 3 dominant appearances for the Panthers while recording 19 strikeouts and only allowing 2 hits and 1 earned run in 11 innings pitched before being selected in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the LA Angels.

Daniel went on to pitch four seasons in the minor leagues as a reliever between 2017 and 2021, two of which being at the AA level. He recorded 4 wins, 4 saves and 144 strikeouts in 120 innings pitched. He also pitched in the prestigious Arizona Fall league in 2018, in the Australian Baseball League for the Adelaide Giants in 2019 and had the honour of being a member of the 2019 Canadian Senior National Team.

Mike Boehmer, Panthers GM, comments; “We are very excited to have Daniel Procopio back with the Panthers. Daniel pitched for us in 2017, averaging well over a strikeout an inning, before being drafted by the Los Angeles Angels. In addition to the Angels, Daniel has pitched in the Houston Astros organization, and for Team Canada in the 2019 WBSC Premier 12. The hard throwing Daniel Procopio will very much strengthen our pitching staff in 2022.”

Panthers fans, please join us in giving Daniel a warm welcome back to Kitchener!
