Perfect weekend puts Panthers closer to playoff position

KITCHENER - In a heated race for a playoff spot, a pair of wins is just what the doctor ordered.

The Panthers finally got the monkey off their backs with the team's first win over the Barrie Baycats this season.

Pedro De Los Santos had his second straight eight inning outing, giving up one run off six hits, fanning nine in a 7-1 Kitchener win Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Burnside had two home runs, while Blake Jacklin also homered in a game that lasted just two hours and 15 minutes.

Raul Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 13 games. The reigning IBL Player of the Month also drove in two runs. Spenser Ross also kept his on-base streak going, nabbing a single to push the streak to 23 straight appearances.

The win pushes Kitchener to 13-25 on the year, while Barrie falls to 25-14. The loss also clinched the IBL pennant for the Welland Jackfish, who will have top seed heading into the IBL playoffs.
