Season Opener Postponed Due to Gas Leak in Stadium
The Kitchener Panthers opened the IBL season Friday evening on the road visiting the London Majors at Labatt Park. Play was suspended in the top of Fifth inning, with Kitchener leading London 5-4, when a mandatory stadium evacuation announcement was made due to a gas leak.
The Panthers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, chasing the 2021 IBL Pitcher of the Year, Pedro De Los Santos, from the game after an inning and two thirds of work. Jett Jarvis is 2 for 3 with a run scored and both Reece Reading and Liam Wilson picked up 2 out 2 RBI doubles.
The game will be resumed prior to the next scheduled match between Kitchener and London on June 10th. The teams’ regularly scheduled game will begin 30 minutes after the completion of this game and will be 7 innings.
Kitchener has their Home Opener scheduled for this coming Monday May 23rd at 5:00 PM. Come on out for some great Victoria Day action as the Panthers take on the visiting Barrie Baycats!
