SIGNING TRACKER: Yosvani Penalver provides lead off punch

KITCHENER - The Panthers have added a big lead off batter in its lineup.

Outfielder Yosvani Penalver is coming off a standout Cuban National Series season in 2023-24. He hit for a .363 average, leading Industriales de La Habana to the league final.

His 57 walks and .496 on-base percentage both ranked fourth in the league.

Penalver has been a consistent plus .300 hitter throughout his CNS career, and his OBP hasn't dipped below .420 since his first season with his hometown in 2018-19.

"We can't wait for Yosvani to join us this season," said general manager Shanif Hirani.

"He's a proven top of the order bat that will be able to set the table for the middle of the order. He's coming off a great season in the Cuban National Series and we project his abilities and approach to translate well to the IBL."
