Vargas pitches Panthers past Baycats

KITCHENER – Andy Vargas struck out 10 over seven innings to lead Kitchener to a 9-4 win over Barrie on Sunday at Jack Couch Park.

He allowed a run on six hits and walked one and moved to 2-8.

At the plate, Trent Lawson hit a two-run home run for the Panthers (15-22).

AJ Karosas had two RBI, Yunior Ibarra and Runta Osawa both had two hits and drove in a run, Charlie Towers added an RBI, Mateo Zeppieri went 2-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, and Yosvani Penalver singled twice and scored.

Francisco Hernandez had three hits, including a solo home run, and three RBI for the Baycats (21-16). Alex Wickett drove in the other run.

Juan Benitez (4-2) was tagged for five runs on eight hits in five innings in a losing effort. He walked one and struck out two.

Kitchener is home to London Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
