WEEK AHEAD: Final week, final chances to clinch playoff berth

KITCHENER - There are three games remaining on the schedule, and the Kitchener Panthers are still looking for that final playoff spot.

Kitchener will host Toronto and London on Thursday and Sunday respectively. Sandwiched in between is a trip to Hamilton for a Friday night fight with the Cardinals.

Thursday’s game is also BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT, sponsored by Oxford Learning.

It is also the last regular season game of the season that you can listen to on 98.5 CKWR.

Sunday, we celebrate YOU, the fans on FAN APPRECIATION DAY as well as our first responders on SUPERHERO DAY. Yes, we wrap up the regular season with a double celebration day.

As for the playoffs, Kitchener’s magic number to clinch is two.

The Brantford Red Sox, who are two games behind Kitchener for eighth, won the season series 3-2 and have the standings tiebreaker between the two teams.

Both teams have three games left.

Brantford needs at least two wins to have a chance at passing the Panthers. If Kitchener loses out, Brantford can clinch by winning of their final three games.

If Kitchener goes 1-2, Brantford needs all three wins.

All three of Kitchener’s remaining opponents are in different situations in the standings.

Toronto cannot drop lower than seventh, but remain a game and a half behind both the Cardinals and Chatham-Kent who are tied for fifth with two games left.

While the battle for fifth rages on, London and Guelph are going toe-to-toe for the third seed.

While second place Barrie is within striking distance, three games head-to-head between the Majors and Royals will be a determining factor into how much is on the line for London once Sunday comes around at Jack Couch Park.
