Welland routs Panthers in home run hit parade

KITCHENER - The good news is there were eight home runs in the game.

The bad news for Kitchener Panthers fans is that not only did the Welland Jackfish account for six of those long balls, but each one of those half dozen homers came with men on base as the visitors won 17-3 Monday night.

Gio Morello, Greyson Barrett, Matteo Porcellato, Brandon Hupe, Tyler Dupuis and Dawson Tweet all went yard for Welland. Blake Jacklin and Nick Parsons each had solo jacks in the loss.

Parsons also drove in a run in the second inning.

Ben Abram went seven innings for Welland in the win. He gave up three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one.

Jose Vasquez was tagged with the loss. He went 3.2 innings in his third start of the season. He gave up six runs (four earned) on nine hits, while striking out two and walking three.

Tyler Hinrikus went oh-for-four in his season debut for Kitchener.

Eric Martin recorded a triple early in the game to bring fans to their feet.

Kitchener falls to 4-13 on the season, while Welland improves to 13-3, thanks to their 10th straight win.

The Panthers are home to Chatham-Kent Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
