Welland wallops Kitchener
KITCHENER - It wasn't even close.
The Kitchener Panthers took a beating courtesy the top ranked Welland Jackfish 23-2 Thursday night at Jack Couch Park.
The Fish put 13 on the board in the fourth inning, and sent 18 players to the plate.
All the while, Kitchener was able to generate just three hits on Jackfish starter Teodoro Ortega, who got 10 strikeouts in five innings for the win.
With the score already out of reach, Welland posted another five in the seventh after Greyson Barrett and Jonah Weisner hit two of the team's five home runs on the night.
Andy Vargas took the loss, getting tagged with 10 runs off of 10 hits in 3.1 innings.
Kitchener's runs came off of their two newest acquisitions.
Former Jackfish Lucas Lefebvre got an RBI double - his 1st IBL hit - and Ayad Ansari brought a run home on a ground out.
Kitchener is on the road this weekend, starting in London Friday and Brantford Sunday.
The next Panthers home game is Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. against Hamilton.
